Did you try to use your phone on Thursday 24th September?
At lunchtime on Thursday were you able to use your phone? Well some “kind souls” yanked up two BT manholes between the bridge and New Cottages, cut the copper wire and pulled it out. Thus our phones were no longer connected. The men were in either a blue or white van and wore the bright yellow warning vests. This has also happened in other nearby places, so please notify the police if you see a white or blue van with men wearing bright yellow vests, who are apparently “unblocking the sewer”
The copper wire that was stolen is valued at £115 per metre!

A Big Thank You to the Wennington Fire Station, Mark & Martin from Mary
On seeing cats in my garden, the dog decided he wanted to chase them. He charged at the gate and got stuck fast with his head, neck, front legs and shoulders between the struts. He would not budge, but luckily the Fire Brigade soon set him free. A big thank you to them all.
Harvest Festival at Wennington Church
There will be a Harvest Festival Service at Wennington Church On Sunday 4th October. It will start at 4pm and there will be no morning service. If you have gifts of flowers, fruit or other foods, please put them in the porch on Saturday. The concert that was planned for the following Saturday has been cancelled.
Jason is a happy bunny!
Our Postman Jason has a big smile on his face now, as he is to stay delivering letters to Wennington Village. There were changes on the card but after negotiations he was left with our village on his round! We are very pleased! Carry on the good work Jason!
Mobile Phone Scam
If you have a mobile phone, please read this carefully. Should someone ring your mobile stating that they are an engineer and are about to check your mobile line, end the call immediately! They will ask you to press #90 or #09; this will allow them to access your SIM card and to make calls at your expense.
Button Factory in Wennington
Before the Fire Station was built in the 1960’s a button factory stood on that site. Can any of you remember it? Have you any photographs of it or memories of your family working there? I know Kay told me that when she was young, she used to go on the green grocery round with her father and they stopped next to the factory. She often went in to the factory and chose some buttons for her grandmother who was a seamstress. Did any other resident work there? There is very little recorded about the factory and we would appreciate further information.
PCSO’s going to Hendon
Daniel one of our PCSO’s has gone off to Hendon to train as a Police Officer and I do hear that he is to come back to Havering after his training. We wish him every success. Percy was due to go to Hendon, but he had to undergo an operation, so his training had to be delayed for a few months. We hope that everything has healed well.
