372 Bus Route run by East London Buses

Recently East London Buses have taken over from Blue Triangle to run the 372 route from Hornchurch to Lakeside.  Obviously there have been teething troubles, but the company have promised to sort them out.  One regular user told me that they had to wait for 2 hours for a bus and 45 minutes at another time.  I have written to the company as the buses often run in tandem.  There will be a further letter written, as I do hear that a new timetable has been proposed which will reduce the service.  I will keep you updated on this matter.

Congratulations to Eric and Ernie

Jaye’s two Jack Russell terriers entered the Kent Game and Country Show in the category for the Best Pair of Terriers.  It was their first competition and they came second!  Congratulations to Eric and Ernie and to their owner, Jaye, who regularly takes them for long walks and encourages them to behave well.

Our condolences go to Pete Smith & his family

Pete’s daughter Carole has been suffering from cancer of the kidneys for some months now and she had been taken off her medication by the doctors.  Sadly she passed away last Saturday.  Many will remember her growing up with her brothers and sisters and playing on The Green.  We send our condolences to Pete and his family at this sad time.

Break in on The Green

A shed in the garden of one of the houses on The Green was broken into and a mountain bike and some tools were taken.  Please do what you can to secure your garden sheds with at least two padlocks which cannot be prised off.  During this time of economic difficulties there is the possibility of break ins and robberies, so please ensure the safety of your property.

Structural Survey of the Village Hall

As I write the structural survey of the Village Hall should be underway.  We will be notified when the report has been sent to the Wennington P.C.C.  It was reported in the Church Bulletin this week that the Veolia Cleanaway Riverside Trust had withdrawn their offer of a grant of £30,000 to renovate the Village Hall due to the extent of asbestos in the walls and the roof, but they were impressed with the PCC’s new hall proposals and were prepared to back the PCC very substantially.  The new hall is proposed to be sited in the paddock.  We will update you on the situation as it progresses.

Polling Station no longer at the Village Hall

It was with great regret that our Polling Station will be at Brady School on June 4th.  We fought hard to keep our Polling Station with support from our Member of Parliament James Brokenshire.  Personally we have requested a postal vote as the parking facilities are limited at Brady School and the buses may only be running every thirty minutes.  Can you imagine getting off at the Farm Shop walking back to Brady with your shopping then walking back to the bus stop with your shopping and waiting for 25 minutes for a bus?  Don’t forget to apply for your postal vote asap!!

Another Break in!

A house in the village had its front door kicked in and thieves ran upstairs to steal precious possessions from one of the bedrooms.  The door was a solid oak door and had two secure locks, but the intruders made an entry by kicking the hinge side of the door.  This happened in the afternoon and had been preceded by two visits the week before and watching the premises prior to the actual forced entry.  The vehicle used was a silver Astra with a false number plate.  Please keep an eye out for strange cars parked near your home and if necessary report them to the Police on 0300 123 1212 or Community Police 0208 649 3522 or 999 in a real emergency.
