Rainham Village: New library and Interchange
Plans are being created to improve Rainham Village.  This will include a new library, interchange and walkway.  Architects East and Maccreanor Lavington are working on behalf of the Havering Council and the London Thames Gateway Development Corporation to develop these proposals.
The public consultation will probably have taken place by the time that you receive this, but you will be able to read details in the next issue of the Havering’s Living.  It is hoped that there will be an interchange at Rainham Station and an Icon Centre, which will house a library and lifelong learning centre.

A New Pavement
Have you noticed the new pavement starting at the pond and stretching to the Green?  We are really pleased that the path has been strengthened by the pond, as we were very concerned that elderly people with limited eye sight had to walk along a disintegrating path.  We are well pleased with the result!  Well done Streetcare!

A New Granddaughter for Jan & Pat
Recently Matthew and Helen announced the arrival of their new daughter Scarlett, a sister to Kyle.  Matthew is the son of Jan and Pat from the Green, remember him being Joseph in the Christmas Nativities?  We send our congratulations to parents and grandparents.

Travellers on the Move
The other morning a van and a caravan tried to get onto the Wennington Marshes via the gate near Laundry Cottages.  Luckily the large rocks at the entrance prevented access for vehicles and the hopefuls left the site unsuccessful.  The owners of the site have taken precautions to prevent further incursions.  Should you see suspected intruders during the day or even at night, please contact the
Police and the Havering Council.

Our Condolences to the family of Bill Ardley

Recently the family of Bill Ardley attended Wennington Church for Bill’s funeral.  Bill had moved into a care home after he was unwell.  He was born in Wennington, was married in Wennington Church and lived with Jessie at Marine Cottages until she died some nine years ago.  We send our condolences to his family.

Pheasants abroad!
Have you heard a raucous shriek coming from the fields?  It may be a pheasant or two, as a couple of males have been heard in the vicinity.  They usually make that noise when trying to attract a female, let’s hope that they won’t be disappointed.  A male pheasant is golden brown with a red and green head with a slim white collar, whereas the female is smaller and mottled brown.  The nest is created on the ground but is well hidden with between eight and fifteen olive eggs.

Our Website
The other day I was asked about getting some new fencing.  Where do you go?  Then I thought of our website and sure enough there was the phone number and address of a fencing company!   There are opportunities for other businesses to advertise on our website, so if you are interested in sponsoring our website, please contact our treasurer at Wvatreasurer1@aol.com

Percy goes to Hendon
We say farewell to Percy, one of our Community Police, who starts at Hendon to train as a fully fledged Police Officer.  He begins his training at the end of the month.  We wish him well and will miss him cycling his way to Wennington from Rainham.  Daniel, the other PCSO will be starting at Hendon in September, so it will be a complete change.  Let’s hope that they will both be back in the borough when they are qualified.
Message from Percy
As you know these are my last days working as a Police Community Support Officer on the Rainham & Wennington SNT.  I am due to start training as a Police Constable very soon and looking forward to it very much.  I am sorry I could not make a personal visit to those who I have kept in close contact with.  I would like to thank all those people who were involved in the development of my career throughout my time served in Rainham.  Many have been an inspiration to me and others have been a real eye opener in what is to come.  I hope that my presence has made a significance difference in your area.  I wish everyone all the best in the future.
