Stolen Hanging Baskets
Six hanging baskets have been stolen from the front of three houses last Friday / Saturday. These baskets were the cream of the bunch! It is most disheartening to spend nearly £100.00 on two baskets only to find that they are stolen at night. There is a report that a vehicle was heard at about midnight, if anyone can give further details, please contact the Rainham & Wennington Safer Neighbourhood Team on 02086493522.
It will help if you wire your basket on so that it can’t be lifted off easily. If you also close the hook up tight at both ends, this may prevent it being “lifted”.
Strange Vehicles at Night
In the light of the hanging baskets that were stolen and the garage that was broken into at Halldare Cottages, please do not hesitate to telephone the Police if you see strange cars parked in the early hours in our village. The Police are only too pleased to check up on cars parked along the road even if there is a person sitting in it. Please lock up your garages and sheds and check them every morning, as you might be surprised if you counted up the value of your power tools!!
Older People’s Needs Research
We were invited to take part in a discussion group which is researching into the needs of the elderly. The Department of Housing and Health of Havering Council has been visiting different groups to ascertain what the needs of people will be in the future, so that they can plan for these needs to be met. We met in the Village Hall last Wednesday and had an interesting discussion with a representative from Peter Fletcher Associates, who are undertaking the research. We will keep you updated, when the report is available. Many thanks to those who supported us.
Area Committees
The next Area Committee for Rainham and Wennington will be on Thursday 20th July at the Royals Youth Centre. Many relevant issues will be discussed, one might be the improvements to the Sandy Lane / A1306 junction. The meeting starts at 7.30pm. If you have an issue that you would like to raise with the councillors, this is your opportunity.
A Wind Turbine at the Fire Station
The Fire Brigade have applied for planning permission to erect a Wind Turbine at the Wennington Fire Station. The turbine will be situated on a 15 metre mast; the whole structure is higher than the existing practice tower. The exact location is south-east of the practice tower. Further details are available from 1A, Church Lane or are on display in the Village Hall. If you wish to write to the Planning Department of Havering Council and comment on the Planning Application, you must do so by 13th July 2006.
Points to consider: its height, location, any noise disturbance, visual intrusion and unacceptable dominance.
lm1Visually it will be apparent beyond The Green, but there are gains in terms of cheaper electricity for the Fire Service – but not for us!! What they have left over goes into the National Grid. From my office window I can see one of them which are situated at Fords, it just protrudes over the sky line. Together with solar panels the cost of producing electricity is considerably reduced, visually we may lose out but the Fire Brigade will gain financially. It is a shame that we will not benefit!!
A New Constitution for the W.V.A.
The Committee have been working through the updated Constitution and are about halfway through. There has been a great deal of discussion to make sure that it meets the needs of our community, so by about October or November it should be ready for general consideration.
