The Wennington Village Sign - created by David Wright our village blacksmith

David grew up on a farm and came in contact with the farming implements that were in everyday use around the family home. At the age of eight David was driving the tractor for his father, although he could not reach the pedals, but had to jump down on them to stop the vehicle.

David would have liked to have trained as a jockey, but his mother’s early death denied him this opportunity. The other career opportunity was music, as David played the trumpet, but this failed to materialize. Nearby was a master blacksmith, whom David visited frequently and became quite  fascinated with his work. Consequently with a practical and patient approach to life, David served his time as an apprentice to the German blacksmith.

After 7 - 8 years David moved to work on steel fabrication at various businesses, giving him a wide experience in the use of metals.  Eventually he decided to start up his own business about 12 years ago and came to settle near the Noke Café, just on the outskirts of Wennington Village.  The traditional blacksmith found that his crafts were in demand and has become a familiar figure around the area.

With his son Steven, he has been to Paris to produce iron work, has worked at Arundel Castle and for Carlton Television, but nearer to home his work will be seen in the children’s park next to Rainham’s Tesco’s and possibly the Queen’s Theatre at Hornchurch.  One piece of his work which has stimulated the greatest interest is the Village Sign on Wennington Green.  It depicts the Church and the farming community which surrounds the village and identifies Wennington as one of the two villages left in the London Borough of Havering.

It is good to see that Thameside Forge has become a family business.

Eve’s Eden is on the Noakes Industrial Estate a short distance from Wennington Village on the old A13 travelling towards Lakeside.  It is situated in between Mil-Karz and Rainham Caravans on the London bound carriageway.  Along with DMS Fencing, Eve’s Eden moved to larger premises on this side of the estate in November 2005.  A complete garden makeover could be at your fingertips with just one visit.

Garden designs and makeovers need not be expensive.  A visit to Eve’s Eden to discuss your ideas is free.  A garden plan with landscaping and planting for your own use or for us to carry out the work can be a very reasonable way of transforming your garden.
Stocking summer and winter bedding, perennials, alpines and bulbs there is something of interest for your garden all year round.

Hanging baskets and planted tubs are always available or alternatively you may bring your empty baskets and tubs into Eve’s Eden and have us fill them for you.  No charge is made for time only for the plants and compost used.  Home visits can be arranged if you have fixed or heavy garden ornaments that need replanting.  Why not send a hanging basket or planted tub as a gift?  They last a whole lot longer than a bunch of flowers!  Free local delivery.  Payment can be made over the telephone via debit or credit card.  No need to leave the house.

If we do not have the plants you are looking for we will attempt to find them for you at one of our many suppliers.  We source plants for both professional and private use.

A local public house to whom we supply baskets and window boxes has recently won the Havering in Bloom award for 2006.
A testament to our hanging baskets for their quality of plants and planting.
