Rainham Horticultural Society
Last week there was a Flower Show at the Methodist Hall, when plant growers displayed their trophies and other arts & crafts and competed for a certificate. One resident received two second places in the cookery section, carrot cake and scones!! Well done Norrie!
Traffic Alterations at the Lennards
Some of you might have been delayed at the Lennards, where there have been extensive road improvements. It appears that there is a new path and bus stop on the Lennards side and the triangle has been reduced to facilitate traffic turning left from the A1306 into Wennington Road. Please be careful when approaching this junction as the traffic may back up rather quickly. We hope that the triangle will be restored to its green and verdant state. The access from the A1306 in front of the Lennards is now closed, so we can’t whiz down there and nip round the corner at xx mph! To enter the car park of the Lennards you have to use Wennington Road and turn into the slip road behind the triangle. Hopefully the triangle will be levelled and reseeded, then perhaps we may have our large stone from South Hall Quarry sited there with a few low level plants. Walter Martin, the publican at the Lennards spoke to me as I was inspecting the improvements and he was considering which plants could go on the triangle. It sounds like a good show is intended. Thanks Walter.
Please be careful when using the new road layout!
Our Best Wishes to those who are ill
We send our best wishes for a speedy recovery to Pete, who has been in hospital. We are so used to him being in the garden every day, that we
thought he had gone away for a holiday! Also to Ivy, who had another fall, please be careful and put more water with it!! We hope that Brian has started his chemo and the side effects are minimal. Jim and Joyce we hope that things are progressing well. To Jan we are there with you every inch of the way. To Anne and Joan we hope that things are easier for you both. If anyone is feeling under the weather and could do with some support, please let us know.
Taken from the Churchyard!
One Christmas Don Clarke died quite suddenly and the family found a large part of their lives missing. Don was buried in the churchyard, as were Nicholas, his nephew, and his father Thomas. Last Sunday Sheila was distraught to find that the little plaque dedicated to Don’s memory had gone missing. At first when something like this happens you think that your mind is playing games with you until reality sinks in!! We are all devastated that someone should remove an item so personal,
Please if you know anything about this, let me know so that we can put things right. In our village most of the residents care, so please support those who are hurt.
Images of Havering
Havering Council has launched a photographic competition for any Havering resident who has a digital camera. Entries need to be e-mailed to living@havering.gov.uk Photographs need to be of Havering, that means landscapes, historic buildings, creatures, flowers, views and people – in fact what you feel reflects where you live. So get snapping – unless you are like me and don’t have a digital camera!!
